Genesis 5
Enoch Walked With God
Genesis 5 is basically, Adam had this kid, lived this long, and died, and then Seth, and on and on, la la la, until it got to Enoch, and it said, “Enoch walked with God.”
And I wonder if, in the years to come, when someone is giving a long list of your family’s genealogy, will it stop with you and say something special?
When somebody you love dies, especially young, it causes you think about your mortality. You think, What if I left this earth tomorrow? What would people think? What would they remember? What would they say? I think it’s kind of special that in this whole list, Enoch stood out so much that he got the walked with God after his name. I want the walked with God after my name someday!
Then we learn more about Enoch. When he was called a prophet, Enoch felt overwhelmed and asked, Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight? All the people hate me, and I am slow of speech. And the Lord basically says, just go preach, and I’ll help you.
And then the Lord says, “Therefore, walk with me.”
It’s so beautiful. He has said it to us so many times, just walk with me, come follow me.
After this, the Lord said to him, “Anoint thine eyes with clay and wash them, and thou shalt see.” And I’m thinking this is why Enoch eventually got translated, because here’s what I would say, um, hi, I’m not blind, or, how does putting mud on my eyes help me speak better? But he didn’t do any of that. He went and put the mud on his eyes.
What do we learn from this? How can we be more like Enoch this week?
Go to the spa and get a mud mask treatment?
Don’t be crazy.
Maybe we should stop asking why so much and just do what the Lord asks. Life is so much simpler when we take the Enoch approach.
A big P.S.
If you have stopped reading the Book of Mormon so you can read the Old Testament every day, I suggest you flip that. Read the Book of Mormon every day, and do your Old Testament Come Follow Me on Sundays, or whatever works for your family. The Book of Mormon is the keystone. Let’s not forget that.
Scripture: Moses 6:34 “Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me”
Action: Ask yourself, “What is one thing the Lord has asked me to do that I’m putting off because I don’t understand it?” Ask for help to have the faith to just do it.

I love hearing your thoughts on things. Thanks for taking the time to share them - and for helping us all to think more deeply!
